The Second Joyful Mystery: The Visitation

The Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary are five mysteries that we meditate on regarding Jesus’s early life.  The Second Joyful Mystery :  The Visitation

Luke 1:39-45

“During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.””

Elizabeth honors Mary upon Mary’s arrival into her house.  Recognizing through the Holy Spirit that Mary was carrying God within her.  That she was more than just a human incubator by exclaiming that she was “…blessed are you among women,…” Even the unborn child of Zechariah and Elizabeth recognized the presence of Jesus within Mary leaping for joy within the womb of Elizabeth.

Do we recognize the Jesus working in our lives like the unborn child of Elizabeth recognized Jesus within Mary?  Do we recognize those who have been transformed by the power of God’s Grace and Mercy only made possible by Jesus?  Have we accepted Jesus into our own home like Elizabeth accepted Mary and the unborn Jesus into her home?

Prayer:  Oh my Jesus, help us to welcome you into our homes, into our midst, into our lives like Elizabeth did when your mother carried you.  Help us to recognize those who choose to live your teachings and to emulate you and those who follow you so that we can lead a holy life. Amen.
